A WIDNES man put on a distinctly above par performance to get a silver medal in a world disability golf tournament.
Bobbie Wright, aged 23, came second and brought home a silver medal from the three-day Macau Golf Masters.
He travelled to Macau China with his dad Robert Wright age 45, they stayed at the world famous MGM Sheraton hotel and visited the the City of Dreams Casino where they watched the House of Dancing Water among other attractions.
Bobbie, who works The Route Café and North Priory Café run by Halton Council for adults with learniong difficulties, excelled in a field of 43 competitors from 17 countries such as the USA, South Korea and Australia.
Halton Council’s executive board member for sport, Cllr Phil Harris, said: “This is a great achievement and this young man is an inspiration to others.”
Bobbie takes part in the Special Olympics, the world’s largest sports organisation for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competitions to 5.7 million athletes and Unified Sports partners in 172 countries.
He has to fund his own travel and competitions costs. He and his father (his coach) got £950 last year from Halton Borough Council but he is looking for sponsorship. Anyone interested, contact Halton Council’s Shelagh Thornhill by calling 0151 511 8772.
