Pontypandy’s hero next door will be in town this Friday (26 July) when the seaside comes to St Helens for the summer.

As part of this year’s Summer Beach attraction – Fireman Sam will be in Church Square from 12:00pm to officially open the attraction and stick around until 4:00pm for a meet and greet.

Complete with a large beach area for youngsters to tackle with their buckets and spades – and a fantastic children’s funfair – Summer Beach will be open throughout the summer holidays from 10:30am to 4:30pm.

Encouraging people to visit Summer Beach over the summer, St Helens Council’s portfolio holder events and culture, Councillor Anthony Burns, said: “Summer Beach has proved to be an extremely popular attraction during the school holidays, bringing hundreds of visitors into the town centre over the years.

“I hope to see families come to St Helens town centre to visit Summer Beach once again, and if the weather is anything like it has been lately – I’m sure this year’s event will be one to remember.”

Summer Beach is just one of many fantastic free events taking place across the borough this summer.

Families then have an action-packed August to look forward to, with the Newton Town Show taking place in Mesnes Park on Saturday 3 August (11am -5pm) and then the annual Summer Streets extravaganza in Church Square – featuring St Helens’ first ever Pride – on 9-10 August among the highlights.

Local acts and performance groups looking to showcase their talents at Summer Streets – which draws large crowds of visitors from inside and outside of the borough each year – are encouraged to get in touch with the council’s events team by emailing events@sthelens.gov.uk
