Members of the community are encouraged to come out and support The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge when it passes through St Helens for the first time this Friday (16 November) to raise money for BBC Children in Need.
Since 2011, The Rickshaw Challenge – which will see a team of six inspiring young people take on a gruelling 423 mile cycle to change children’s lives – has raised over £21m for BBC Children in Need, and every penny that’s donated goes towards helping children and young people across the UK.
As part of this year’s route from Calais in France to Media City in Salford, Team Rickshaw will ride through St Helens town centre this Friday afternoon at around 12:00pm, with members of the public asked to turn out in Church Square, Church Street and Bridge Street to clap them on.
Ahead of this year’s challenge, One Show presenter Matt Baker, who will join Team Rickshaw on the challenge, said: “This is the eighth year that we’ll be heading out on the roads with the Rickshaw Challenge and I can’t wait to get back in the saddle alongside six truly inspirational young people.
“Every year the support that we get never ceases to amaze me, it’s fantastic to see how people from all across the UK get behind the Challenge and I’m looking forward to seeing all those friendly faces willing us on again this year, and helping us to raise so much money for a charity which is incredibly close to my heart.”
Motorists are advised that no road closures are necessary for this event, but are asked to allow as much room as possible to Team Rickshaw.
