World Mental Health Day is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.

Three St Helens-based artists have produced new and unique works for the occasion, funded by Cultural Hubs’ artist commission funding.

In Bernadette Hughes’ piece ‘Help Needed’, she takes the form of Victorian librarian Flora Drunkill, who needs help and company from library-goers. Flora is busy sifting through the library for some inspiring quotes, which could uplift someone you know. Drop in, have a chat and a drink with Flora, and make a connection between 11:30am-3:30pm.

In Claire Weetman’s ‘What are you waiting for?’ find out what issues are affecting other people’s wellbeing and take a moment to consider what you are waiting for. In this art of the unexpected, a team of performers will create ‘spaces for waiting’ using modified queueing barriers (pictured) between Elephant Lane and Thatto Heath Library. This session runs from 2pm-5pm, drop in for free.

In Julia Cadman’s ‘Something Rich and Strange’ four pairs of musicians will explore distinct musical ideas; improvising with each other, sometimes accommodating, clashing or ignoring. Then, the disparate timbres and tonalities will come together to produce a complex whole. This event begins at 6pm and is free to attend, but bookings are necessary. Book online at www.culturalhubs.eventbrite.co.uk.
